About Me

Honest reviews from a real kitchen, not a test kitchen

Hi! I’m Erin. Mom of two little ones, fulltime plate spinner, and the person behind Recipe Reality Check. If you’ve ever had one of those nights, the long day, the hungry kids, the “what on earth do I make for dinner?” stare into the fridge; then you are absolutely in the right place.

Like you, I’ve spent more evenings than I’d like to admit scrolling through beautiful recipe photos online, thinking: This looks incredible! I totally have the ingredients! How hard could it be? And then 45 minutes later wondering why the dish tastes like disappointment and why the blogger insisted on 17 steps for something allegedly “quick and easy.” That is exactly how Recipe Reality Check was born.

🍴 What You’ll Find Here

This is not a chef run, test kitchen curated, perfectly lit food site. This is a real family kitchen.

Here’s what I share:

✔ Honest recipe reviews

I test online recipes from blogs, famous chefs, cookbooks, and random things going viral on social media and give you the real verdict. Did it turn out? Did it flop? Was it worth the dishes?

✔ Kid reactions

Because nothing says “reality check” like a toddler’s brutally honest face.

✔ Substitutions that actually work

If I changed something because I’m out of an ingredient (again), I tell you exactly what I did and how it turned out.

✔ Time, effort & frustration levels

A recipe might be delicious, but is it doable on a Wednesday night?  I’ll let you know.

🧑‍🍳 My Cooking Style

I’m not a trained chef. I’m a normal mom who:

  • loves good food
  • hates wasted ingredients
  • values my time (and sanity)
  • and believes dinner shouldn’t require three different pans or a culinary degree

If I can make it work, you probably can too. If I can’t, I’ll warn you. I’d love to have you along for the journey.

See you in the next review!
