An Easy Cheeseburger Casserole Review: A New Family Favorite?

Sometimes when I choose a recipe, I’m looking for something quick. Sometimes I want something a little different. And sometimes I just want dinner to be fun.

That’s what I was looking for this week when I came across this Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole from All Things Mamma.

Ben loves burgers. Kids love tater tots. Combine the two? It seemed like a pretty safe bet.

Turns out, it was an even bigger hit than I expected.

Why I Chose This Recipe

I wanted to find something that felt like a fun family dinner rather than just another meal to put on the table.

Cheeseburgers are already a favorite around here, especially for Ben, and tater tots are pretty hard to argue with.

So taking those familiar flavors and turning them into a casserole immediately caught my attention.

It sounded comforting, kid friendly, and easy enough for a regular weeknight.

How It Was to Make

This was really simple to throw together.

You cook the ground beef mixture, put everything into the casserole dish, cover it with tater tots, and let the oven take over. There’s nothing particularly complicated about the process, which is exactly what I want from a casserole.

It does need some time in the oven, but the actual hands on work is minimal. That’s a combination I can appreciate.

How It Tasted

I thought this was really good.

It’s definitely a hearty meal, and it delivered exactly what the name promised: cheeseburger flavors with crispy tater tots on top.

There’s nothing fancy about it. It’s just warm, filling comfort food. And sometimes that’s exactly what dinner needs to be.

Family Review

Paul: He really liked this one and said it genuinely tasted like eating a cheeseburger. Considering that’s exactly what the recipe was trying to accomplish, I’d say that’s a win.

Charlotte: The tater tots definitely caught her attention, and she happily enjoyed those.

Ben: We have reached a new level of recipe approval. I got a happy dance.

Not just an “I like it.” Not just a request to make it again. An actual happy dance over dinner. I’m pretty sure that’s the highest compliment a meal can receive.

Needless to say, this one is staying in the rotation.

What I’d Serve With It

This casserole is pretty filling on its own, so I wouldn’t add anything particularly heavy alongside it.

I’d keep things simple with something like:

  • A basic side salad
  • Steamed or roasted broccoli
  • Green beans
  • Carrot sticks with ranch
  • Fresh fruit

You could also set out some favorite burger toppings, pickles immediately come to mind, to play up the cheeseburger theme even more.

Final Thoughts

I went into this recipe hoping to find a fun dinner the whole family could enjoy. Mission accomplished.

It was easy to put together, filling, tasted like the cheeseburger inspired comfort food it promised to be, and earned approval around the table.

But really Ben’s happy dance says everything you need to know.

There are plenty of nights when getting dinner on the table feels like another task on the to do list.

I love finding recipes that make dinner feel a little more fun. This one did exactly that.

And when a recipe can turn an ordinary family dinner into something worth doing a happy dance over?

I’d say it has officially earned a repeat.
