I’ll admit it, desserts are usually the part of cooking that makes me the most nervous. I don’t really consider myself a baker, and sometimes recipes that look beautiful also look intimidating.
That’s one of the reasons I decided to try this Strawberry Shortcake Sheet Cake from Celebrating Sweets. It looked like the perfect summer dessert without requiring expert baking skills.
Spoiler alert: it was much easier than I expected.

Why I Chose This Recipe
Summer always makes me crave lighter desserts.
Fresh strawberries, whipped frosting, and simple flavors.
This cake checked all of those boxes and looked like something that would be perfect for a family gathering, cookout, or just because strawberries are in season.

How It Was to Make
One thing I appreciated right away was how clear the instructions were. Nothing felt overly complicated, and the recipe walked me through each step without making me second guess what I was doing. As someone who doesn’t consider herself much of a baker, that’s always something I notice.
The best part wasn’t actually the recipe itself, though. Ben decided he was going to be my baking assistant. He happily helped measure ingredients, stirred when he could, and of course made sure to sample the frosting for quality control.
Watching him play pretend baker while we worked together might have been my favorite part of making this recipe.

How It Tasted
This cake was exactly what I hoped it would be. Light, fresh, and perfect for summer.
The strawberries kept it feeling bright without being overly sweet, and the frosting paired beautifully with the cake.
It’s the kind of dessert that feels special enough for a celebration but easy enough to make on an ordinary weekend.

Family Review
Paul: Really enjoyed it and happily helped make sure there weren’t many leftovers.
Ben: His official review included plenty of frosting taste tests during baking.
Charlotte: Another thumbs up from our little dessert lover.
Grandma & Grandpa: Ben happened to be spending the night with my parents, which meant they got to enjoy a few pieces too. They didn’t mind being included in the taste test. 😊

Final Thoughts
This recipe was a reminder that baking doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Sometimes all you need are clear instructions, fresh ingredients, and a willing little helper standing next to you.
This Strawberry Shortcake Sheet Cake earned a win from everyone who tried it, making it one of those recipes I’ll happily keep in mind for summer gatherings, birthdays, and weekends when strawberries are calling my name.
If you’re someone who usually shies away from baking, I’d encourage you to give this one a try. You might surprise yourself.
And if you have a little one who wants to help in the kitchen, even better.
