Chicken Scampi Recipe Review (Is it Better Than Olive Garden?)
I’ve always been a fan of shrimp scampi. Paul not so much. Since shrimp has never been his favorite, I started looking for a recipe that would capture those bright, buttery, lemony flavors while still being something we’d both enjoy.
That’s how I landed on this Chicken Scampi from Cooking Classy.
It turned out to be the perfect compromise and one that may have earned a permanent place in our summer dinner rotation.

Why I Chose This Recipe
Even though I enjoy comfort food year round, summer makes me want meals that feel a little lighter.
I still wanted pasta, but I didn’t want something heavy or covered in a rich cream sauce. Chicken scampi seemed like the best of both worlds.
Fresh flavors, simple ingredients, and a weeknight friendly recipe that didn’t require a lot of extra work.

How It Was to Make
There weren’t a lot of complicated steps, and everything flowed together nicely.
One thing I especially appreciated was something I’ve honestly never seen another pasta recipe do.
Instead of simply saying, “Cook the pasta according to the package directions,” the recipe actually tells you when to start cooking the pasta so it finishes at the same time as the sauce. It sounds like such a small detail, but it made a big difference.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had pasta sitting in the colander getting cold and clumping together while I hurried to finish the sauce. Having everything ready at the same time made the whole cooking process feel much smoother.
I wish more pasta recipes included timing like this. It’s the kind of thoughtful detail that makes a recipe easier to cook and gives you a better finished meal.
That’s exactly the kind of recipe I appreciate on a busy weeknight.

How It Tasted
This recipe was a wonderful surprise. The flavor was light, fresh, and subtle.
Even though it’s a pasta dish, it didn’t leave us feeling weighed down afterward.
It felt like the perfect balance between comforting and fresh. Exactly what I look for in a summer dinner.
Family Review
Paul: This one was an easy winner. In fact, he even said it was better than the Chicken Scampi at Olive Garden. That’s a pretty high compliment coming from him.
Ben: Neither of the kids seemed especially hungry that evening, but Ben still happily ate some noodles and even asked if we could have it again. I’ll gladly count that as a success.
Charlotte: She enjoyed a few noodles herself before deciding she was finished. Some nights that’s just how toddler dinners go.

Final Thoughts
This recipe checked every box I was hoping it would.
- Quick enough for a weeknight.
- Light enough for summer.
- Thoughtful instructions that made cooking easier.
- Family approved.
Most importantly, it gave us a way to enjoy the flavors I love about shrimp scampi while making a meal that everyone at our table could enjoy. That’s the kind of compromise I can get behind.
If you’re looking for a simple pasta dinner that’s lighter than your typical creamy pasta recipes, this Chicken Scampi is definitely worth adding to your list.
